Viraj Sabhaya

Software Engineer

Software engineer based in the USA, focused on backend systems, data-heavy applications, healthcare technology, and AI-assisted product delivery. I build software that turns complex systems into clear, usable products, work well across teams, and care about turning technical effort into useful outcomes.

My story

I like hard technical problems, but I care most about whether the work helps people.

In healthcare, that has meant improving Proxy APIs, SQL Server workflows, infrastructure usage, and delivery quality for systems that teams depend on every day. In research, it meant turning messy multilayer network data into dashboards people could actually explore and understand.

I work well where engineering needs both precision and range: writing code, refining data flows, documenting decisions, partnering with QA and analysts, and using AI tools in a way that speeds up delivery without lowering quality.

What I have done

A few outcomes that show how I work.

50%

Reduced infrastructure footprint by optimizing load balancers and IIS pools from 14 servers to 7.

75%

Improved pattern detection efficiency by enhancing multilayer network analysis algorithms.

77%

Improved test outcomes through tighter collaboration on requirements, validation, and delivery quality.

Experience

Teams and roles that shaped my approach.

05/2024 - Current Arlington, TX

Software Engineer at Altera Digital Health

I build and maintain healthcare-facing systems with SQL Server, Python, ASP.NET Web Core API, and Postman-centered workflows. The work includes database uplift projects, API development, technical documentation, Azure DevOps execution, and AI-assisted workflow improvements for engineering tasks and query optimization.

09/2022 - 05/2024 UT Arlington

Software Developer at IT Lab

Built the MLN Dashboard for analyzing airline, LinkedIn, and IMDb-style graph data. I improved Louvain and Infomap workflows and developed visualization features with Pandas, NetworkX, and Matplotlib to make complex network behavior easier to inspect.

06/2022 - 08/2022 Addison, TX

Software Engineer Intern at Securonix

Automated Cypress testing for the SNYPR SIEM platform, contributed to Kafka and Spark data initiatives, and shipped QA tooling that reduced manual work and supported faster, more dependable sprint delivery.

What people in my field have to say about me

Recommendations from engineers and technical leaders I have worked with.

“I have had the opportunity to work alongside Viraj, and without a doubt, he is one of the most reliable and proactive engineers I have encountered. He takes ownership of his work, is always looking for ways to improve reliability, and shows a strong desire to be a team player, with a good degree of technical skill and ambition. You can count on Viraj when you need him.”

Irfan Tarlekar

Sr. Security Engineer

“Viraj is the kind of professional every team hopes to have: reliable, thoughtful, and committed to doing things the right way. He communicates clearly, follows through on commitments, and displays a strong sense of ownership from start to finish.”

Portia Jones-Harper

Senior Technical Consultant at Allscripts

“He’s a passionate software developer who tackles every challenge with curiosity and a strong desire to grow. Whether he’s diving into new areas of our product or solving complex problems, Viraj brings energy, focus, and a can-do attitude to everything he does. He’s also a true team player.”

Education

My college years built the foundation, discipline, and momentum behind how I work now.

Degree

University of Texas at Arlington

Bachelor of Science in Computer Science.

  • Built a strong base in algorithms, operating systems, databases, software testing, AI, machine learning, and networks.
  • Used coursework and projects to move from classroom coding into systems thinking, product delivery, and collaborative engineering.

On-campus jobs

How I learned to operate under pressure

Student Lab Assistant, then Research Assistant and IT Lab Developer.

  • Learned to troubleshoot real systems, support users, and communicate clearly when things were breaking.
  • Advanced from technical support into research and software work where I owned meaningful features and data stories.

College community

Peers who kept me building

  • Mobi: software development club where I contributed as a junior developer.
  • ACM at UTA: stayed connected to the broader CS community on campus.
